PLANTING FOR POLLINATORS

PLANTING FOR POLLINATORS

  • Replace some of your lawn with plants for pollinators. You will give birds, bees, butterflies, insects & other creatures a home.
  • A mix of shrubs, perennials, native plants & annuals will do it.
  • Do NOT use any pesticides or chemical fertilizers which may kill or harm pollinators. Use compost instead.
  • Turn off outdoor lighting when you come in at night. It interferes with insect & bird navigation, reproduction & ability to find food
  • In the fall, leave the leaves & plant stems for overwintering insects & for bird nest building in spring.
  • Why? We need to do this because of loss of larval hosts; loss of forage, overwintering & nesting habitat; the continued use of pesticides.
