PLANTING FOR POLLINATORS
PLANTING FOR POLLINATORS
- Replace some of your lawn with plants for pollinators. You will give birds, bees, butterflies, insects & other creatures a home.
- A mix of shrubs, perennials, native plants & annuals will do it.
- Do NOT use any pesticides or chemical fertilizers which may kill or harm pollinators. Use compost instead.
- Turn off outdoor lighting when you come in at night. It interferes with insect & bird navigation, reproduction & ability to find food
- In the fall, leave the leaves & plant stems for overwintering insects & for bird nest building in spring.
- Why? We need to do this because of loss of larval hosts; loss of forage, overwintering & nesting habitat; the continued use of pesticides.
